He graduated from Centennial High School in Circle Pines, MN in 1969. George was united in marriage to Judith Wetterling on October 9, 1971. George spent his professional career working as a Chef. He specialized in soups and sauces and especially enjoyed preparing ethnic dishes. His day job, however, was just a small portion of his life and interests. George had a strong work ethic, and with that, combined with a passion for do-it-yourself, he led his family from one adventure to another. Never without a book or five, he would read and research and teach himself what he needed to know. George started with an acre of land, two greenhouses, and big garden. He learned beekeeping, and the honey harvest was a favorite time of the year. Not one to sit still, he moved his family to a small hobby farm in Princeton, MN, where he raised purebred Yorkshire hogs for breeding stock and F1 Hampshire/Yorkshire feeder pigs for sale at the local sales barn. The garden grew even bigger, and chickens, ducks, turkeys, geese, sheep, goats, two ponies, a scruffy barn cat named Boozer and the best farm dog, Samantha, added to the adventure at Skip’s Farm. As a family we cut wood, built a barn, butchered chickens, weeded endless garden rows, farrowed pigs and did daily chores. The entire family looked forward to hosting our family and friends at the annual hog roast on the second Saturday in August. George enjoyed fishing trips Up North, rowdy jokes, and a good game of cards. He had a well-worn Book of Hoyle, claiming to always play by the rules, however suspiciously lucky he appeared to be! A journey of jobs and moves finally settled into life on Wren Street in Coon Rapids, where again George worked as a chef during the day, and gardened with a passion after work and on the weekends. One small flower garden led to a big hosta garden that led to a peaceful pond and greenhouse full of orchids. If you stopped for a visit, you were probably rewarded with a plant or two to take home to your own garden. George continued to live in the house on Wren Street until his move to Margaret Place Senior Apartments. George found happiness and many friends at Margaret Place. He enjoyed playing cards, leading tours and playing music in the lobby for his neighbors. George was called to peace on the evening of Wednesday, September 20th, at the age of 66. Left to remember his smile and quick wit are his daughters, Tammy (Jeff) Mayo, Lisa (Jason) Wahl, and Melissa Diemert. Grandchildren Benjamin, Jonah and Grace Mayo, Silas and Samuel Wahl, and Megan Wynn. Ex-wife, Judy Diemert; brothers Brandt, Jeff and Thom Diemert, and many nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Cleo Diemert, and brothers Joseph and Richard.
